English Staff Ranging from verbs, nouns, and adjectives to short stories, plays, and novels, the English department's offerings provide a wide variety of required and elective courses. Students in all classes work to refine English skills such as reading comprehension, creative and expository writing, language usage, and speaking skills. Freshman, sophomore, junior and senior English are required. The first three offer a basic and an honors program at each level. The basic programs attempt to work with individual reading levels and writing and comprehension skills. The honors program provides an opportunity for students with superior skills and interest to study on a more creative and in-depth basis. Senior English offers students a variety of courses on various levels: World Literature, Communication in Society, Advanced Placement English, and Basic English IV. Word Clues, Speech and Journalism round out the program and provide opportunities for students to sharpen their skills in vocabulary, speaking and writing.
